Facilities at the SABC

Where is the SABC?

The SABC is located on the main Murdoch University (South Street) campus close to the Kwinana Freeway, in the Loneragan building (easiest access from Murdoch Drive, opposite St John of God's Hospital, and follow the signs to the SABC). The Loneragan Building is positioned between the Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, and Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences buildings.

The Director's office and Office Manager's office are on level 2 of the Loneragan Building, outside the double doors which require swipe card access for entry into the laboratory areas.

The SABC has extensive PC2 containment facilities, including bench space for 112 full-time researchers located in three large laboratories, the WA Department of Agriculture Biotechnology Services Labs, and an extension laboratory. There are a series of dedicated rooms for specialist acitivities such as PCR, DNA sequencing and genomics, mass spectroscopy and proteomcis, microscopy, setting up reactions, robotic workstations, dark room and tissue culture rooms.

In addition there are offices, a computer room, a seminar room and a meetingroom/library. Externally available support facilities, includes a 52ha vet farm on site, and major PC2 and non-PC2 glasshouse facilities.

A 'Centre of Excellence'

The SABC was recognised in 1998 by the WA State Government as a 'Centre of Excellence for Industry Focussed R&D'.
